PATARA offers a very special holiday for guests looking for an unspoilt traditional Turkish Village with many historical remains and stunning scenery. |

Patara is an area protected by the Turkish government because of the many ancient ruins in the area and because the beach is a nesting ground for the rare loggerhead turtle . This means that there are no hotels allowed by the beach, or close the ruins. The only development has been allowed in the village where there are a few small hotels, a couple of bars, restaurants and shops. The village is just 2.5 km from stunning white sand of the beach, and as ths beach stretches for 18km you can always find a secluded spot. Patara village was one of ancient Lycian’s six major cities as well as the birthplace of Apollo and St. Nicholas whom we know as Santa Claus. Testimony to this past importance are the astonishing number of antiquities that litter the countryside, especially near the road that leads to one of the finest Mediterranean beaches. It's hard to imagine a connection with Father Christmas, but Patara was the birthplace of the famous St Nicholas whose name over the centuries changed to Santa Claus. You can visit his 3rd century church further down the coast at Demre. From Patara you can catch a dolmus to Kalkan or Kas, either of which would make an interesting day trip.
